WE HAVE DONE IT.....HURRAH!
What a challenge! Individually we cannot not change the world, but by supporting Christian Aid the lives the of some of the poorest people in our world can be transformed.
We each pledged to raise £1,100 for Christian Aid and personally covered the £600 cost of the trip, so any donations or money from fundraising events went directly to Christian Aid. We were amazed and delighted with everyone's generosity and support which exceeded expectations raising £10 000 in total.
It all started at Christmas with a Santa Cycle, and congratulations to everyone who made it up the hill by bike, go-cart, trundle toy, pushchair or walking, raising a fantastic £600. The Mama Mia sing-along was also great fun and raised £755. There were some great 70's outfits! Thanks to all at Stormont Church for your prayers, support and generosity that got us through the training and along the road to Paris.
So now we've done it! 305.4 miles from London to Paris (slightly longer for some who missed the sign for the hotel). We were cycling between 72 and 81 miles each day, day 2 mostly uphill and day 3 into a strong head wind. All the training paid off and we managed it in good time, although we were glad of lots of food and a good bed each night. It was an amazing experience, and cycling into Paris to the cheers of the locals the day before the Tour du France was brilliant. We stopped the traffic on the Champs-Elise as we cycled en masse around L'Arc du Triomphe! Crossing the finish line at the Eiffel Tower was quite emotional.
If you are feeling inspired you can sign up for the 2010 London to Paris bike ride.
