The Hopkinsons Christian Aid was founded by the churches of Britain and Ireland. And together, we work to fight poverty and injustice.

Our current focus is

'Credit where Credit's due'

World Development Appeal 2009

This is the first of a two-year series of World Development Appeals under the title "Credit where Credit's due". The focus is that when the poor are able to secure access to very modest financial support through micro-credit schemes and 'start-up' grants they are able to transform their lives in a sustainable way. This can be seen in projects, supported by Christian Aid and Tearfund, in Cambodia, India, Ethiopia and Mali. Our Moderator, Rt. Rev Dr Stafford Carson, visited the development work highlighted in Ethiopia and our partner in India is the development wing of the Church of North India.

Last year, in the midst of much fear about the banking sector and the global economy, financial support for the World development Appeal dipped slightly. The World Development Committee of the PCI have put together a range of information that will strongly underline how we, as an integral part of our Christian calling, can be of real help to those suffering most from the effects of what has come to be called the "credit crunch". They therefore commend to us the "Credit Where Credit's Due" World Development Appeal for our prayerful and generous support. St. James pointedly poses the question: "Suppose someone is without food and clothing. If you say, "God bless, keep warm and well fed but do nothing about it, what good is that?" (James 2: 15, 16).
